2007 Message from Kristin Engvig
Taking the next step: fearless, graceful and together.
We are celebrating 10 years of progress and of women creating new worlds.
Around us we are witnessing major challenges: global warming, hunger, migration, over consumption, terrorism and an environmental crisis. We know there are places in the world where pollution is so bad one can hardly breathe and flowers no longer grow. We know children are dying of hunger and wars rage and people suffer. We want it to be different. We certainly want to find a way to play a more conscious role in shaping the future.
At work we witness challenges also as “business as usual” doesn’t fit our values anymore. Women have never been more prepared and never have had more opportunities. Yet many women are opting out of corporate life and choosing to go their own way.
Even inside us we are witnessing challenges as we are learning that “having it all” means conflicting agendas and tremendous stress.
Who doesn’t feel overwhelmed and wonder how and where to begin? And that is exactly where we hope in Oslo to inspire you into “taking the next step”.
For W.I.N., taking the next step is not about opting out, nor about stressing out. It is about creating possibilities, giving hope and a sense of community, and being a stimulus to living simpler and more fulfilling lives. It is about finding our vitality and assuming leadership to make a difference, restructuring organizations with caring environments, and with every little step we take, each and every one of us making conscious decisions for lasting results.
We know women can do it and we have an opportunity to transform communities, work and life in a way that works for generations to come.
A next step must be taken - whether it is for the world, for work or simply for ourselves. When it comes to the how, we believe that each of us must show courage, moving forward fearlessly, facing the challenges of our environment and our very own lives with confidence and connection to ourselves and others. At W.I.N. we are interested in who you are and how you do anything you do. The more we study the major challenges of our time, the more we understand that we can’t look at anything in isolation. How you individually participate and contribute matter.
We need to wake up and become fearless when we defend what we nourish and be resilient in what we care for. There is a strong quality to the “caring” we talk about at W.I.N. Progressing gracefully, motivated by love, and looking for beauty in the big and small things. Working together; women and men, adults and children, across countries, cultures, religions and colours is a daily exercise.
As we meet to plan and to learn how to let life unfold, I welcome you to W.I.N. with a request to be open, ready to connect, quick to contribute, to take risks, commit, and expect magic.
I would like to thank all of you who come to W.I.N., some of you year after year. I am particularly grateful to all the sponsors who believe in and support W.I.N. I also thank the speakers, coaches and the advisory board for giving time and talent. Finally I would like to especially thank the women on the W.I.N. team of both this year and all other years; who have manifested year after year that it is possible to work efficiently and beautifully together coming from a variety of backgrounds, nationalities, religions and age groups.
We can celebrate progress and women creating new worlds.
Welcome to W.I.N. 2007,
Love and courage,
Kristin Engvig
